Production Diary - Pins & Needles

We are into the final leg of post production. Jake is working hard on the final edit after a shuffle around and the new addition of a voice over, Pins & Needles is slowly piecing together after a stressful couple of weeks.

A few of our shots have to be re-filmed as soon as possible, hopefully today or tomorrow. Today Sadie and I are trying to push our R&D files to get the completed and ready for submission this Thursday, when hopefully Pins & Needles itself will also be wrapped up and ready to show the world.

Today we’re off out to shoot out interview at Pete Who Tattoos, I’ve just completed putting together my appearence release forms and my location release forms to be signed.

We’ll be shooting on two Canon 60D cameras and doing sound on our Tascam.

Earlier in the week we headed out to the Chesterfield market in search of people who are not tattooed to gather some footage of the opposing opinion. Jake is already well underway editing what we have so far, the market footage and the filler footage we previously shot with Sasha at the studio and it’s coming together beautifully!

We have booked the studio for the 1st and 8th or March and we are currently booking models and friends of ours to discuss why tattooing should be considered an art and why it needs to cease being shunned.

I’ll keep you posted on progress! Hopefully I’ll get a few pictures to share today!

Production Diary - Documentary - Pins & Needles

This Wednesday I went to see speak to Pete “Who” Tattoo and discuss my ideas the process we’d be going through during our interviews and whilst the crew and I were filming. He’s really enthused about the idea and excited to work with Sadie, Jake and I. He’s also recommended friends of his who are also happy to be interviewed and filmed.

I had a good look around the studio and this Wednesday I will risk assess, recce and get my permissions from Pete. I also booked in for a sneaky tattoo! So it would be brilliant if I could take Sadie and Jake along to film the process, it’s make for a great credits sequence.

So my idea for my documentary project cannot go ahead, due to legal issues surrounding people working illegally and tying college in with it by using their equipment, so on and so forth, but just as I’m told this, a scratcher appears on my news feed, posted my several different people I’m friends with on Facebook, which has thrown fuel on the fire.
This NEEDS to be addressed and I have to shoot something on a handicam in my own time and edit it on Microsoft software, I’ll do it.
The seriousness of this situation within the tattoo industry is incredible. Yet so overlooked. These people are mutilating bodies, granted, their “customers” go there and give them permission and money to do so but it has to be stopped, it has to be shut down. People can be seriously hurt by a tattoo done wrong. For example…

This tattoo looks like the beginning of an infection, maybe caused be dirty needles, second hand ink etc. This is dangerous!!! IT HAS TO BE ADDRESSED!!
I’m so furious right now that I can’t make the documentary I wanted to right now, because I’d distinction the life out of it.
Please don’t forget, you get what you pay for. If you want a tattoo, save your money and go to a professional, a real artist who can provide you with someone beautiful, sustainable and SAFE. It’s worth the money. Please don’t be stupid and go to people with no training, no experience, working from their living rooms, kitchens, or whatever other room in the house.
